With a $22 billion budget, the Mubadala Development Company really hopes so. With a goal of reducing carbon emissions, using renewable energy sources, and creating brand new clean-tech innovations that’ll change the world, the futuristic city definitely had a lot to accomplish. It aims to have at east 50,000 residents living there upon completion in 2030, but so far only 4,000 workers and 1,300 students call this desert city their home. Masdar is developing a lot of cool technology, though. For one, they have awesome public transportation called the Personal Rapid Transit system that is made up of futuristic, electric and driverless pods that get people around the city underground. The city is also home to the world’s first university for artificial intelligence, the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, and the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology. There’s also a Tech Park where young innovators can collaborate, take courses and build prototypes together, as well as a mall called My City Center Masdar where residents can go for some retail therapy. As for accommodations, potential residents will love the city’s Eco-Villas, which cost about $200,000 and have their own solar panels. So, what would it be like to live in the world’s first eco-city, and is the project even going to be completed? Let’s have a look at Masdar City so far.
