Khal Drogo was a barbaric character who barely spoke, and after Momoa wrapped filming he kept getting type-cast as the strong, silent type and had nowhere near the same success as costars Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington. Some casting directors never even considered Momoa for their movies because they thought he didn’t speak English. He landed the lead role in 2011’s “Conan the Barbarian” and starred in his own film “Road to Paloma”, but neither movie made the money come pouring in. In 2015 it was reported that the actor owed more than $100,000 in unpaid taxes. Recently, Momoa opened up about not being able to afford his $3.6 million mansion and struggling for years to feed his family. But then “Aquaman” happened, and the star finally got a big break that brought in the big bucks. He’s appeared in three DC films so far and “Aquaman 2” is scheduled for release in 2022. He also landed the role of Duncan Idaho in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune”, and the film’s $200 million budget points to a good payday for the once-out-of-work actor. He’s also found more success of TV, making a reported $600,000 per episode for his role in AppleTV’s “See.” So, here’s everything you need to know about Jason Momoa’s journey from broke-actor to iconic superhero.
