The Longest Underwater Tunnel Cost $16 Billion Dollars
Under the English Channel, connecting the United Kingdom to France, is the famous Channel Tunnel. Also known as the Chunnel, it is one of the seven modern wonders of the world. It is a wonder that took 13,000 workers and 11 boring machines to create. It runs 23.6 miles under the water and 35 miles between the two terminals with one being in Coquelles, France and the other at Folkestone, England. Much trade goes on through this tunnel and many passengers travel through it, as well. From terminal to terminal, millions of passengers and tons of products—such as fresh food and roses—are taken under the English Channel and then onto land to make incredible feats in delivery such as same-day deliveries. This can also be done with medicine! But what more can be said about this particular tunnel that had cost billions of dollars to create? In this video, we will be talking about the ins and outs of the tunnel, why it was built, what goes through it, and even how it compares to other undersea tunnels like the Seikan Tunnel, the Eiksund Tunnel, and the Thames Tunnel. The Channel Tunnel was once known as the longest undersea tunnel. Although that is no longer the case, that does not make this tunnel any less important. All undersea tunnels serve one common purpose, after all. And that is to move things across the water. Let’s take a dive inside the tunnel to get to know it a bit better and see what makes this bridge between lands so vital. If you happen to be in Europe, maybe you will want to make an online purchase for a fast delivery after watching. Or perhaps you’ll even want to travel across with the Channel Tunnel’s trains.
